  • Dordt College Field Day -- 5:30 PM

    Dordt College, Practical Farmers of Iowa, and Iowa State University Extension will host a field day Wednesday, September 1, at Dordt’s Agriculture Stewardship Center – located two miles north of Sioux Center on Highway 75.  The evening begins at 5:30 PM with a free supper.  The program begins at 6:00 PM with on-farm trials demonstrated.

  • Grief Support Group -- 6:30 PM

    Orange City Home Health & Hospice is offering a Grief Support Group which will meet at 6:30 PM on five consecutive Thursday evenings, beginning September 2.  This free program will provide directed group support within an educational format.   • “Family-to-Family” Course -- 7:00 PM

    The National Alliance on Mental Illness “Family-to-Family” Course is being offered this fall.  This free 12-week program of education and support for friends and families of persons with a mental illness will be held in the Sioux Center Public Library from 7:00 to 9:30 on Thursday evenings, beginning September 2.  Class size is limited.  Pre-registration can be made by calling Shirley at 722-4462.     



  • ATLAS Time of Prayer -- 7:00 PM

    Dr. Michael D. Williams, Professor of Systematic Theology at Covenant Theological Seminary, will speak on the campus of Dordt College on Monday, September 6.  The topic at his 11:00 AM lecture in the BJ Haan Auditorium will be "The Mission of God."  His 7:30 PM lecture in the Science and Technology Building Lecture Hall S101 will cover the topic of "Called to Mission" – a challenge for Christians to be active agents in God's redemptive purposes for his world.

    Katelyn’s Fund Orphan Ministry will hold an adoption support meeting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 9, in the Fireside Room of the Sioux Center First Reformed Church.  An Adoptive Grandparents Panel will discuss “adoption fears and blessings.”  Anyone is welcome to attend.

  • Psalms & Hymns Travelogue -- 7:30 PM

    Psalms and hymns will be featured in the first KDCR Travelogue of the season.  At 7:30 PM on Friday, September 10, Don & Fran Van Polen will present their travelogue in the Dordt College BJ Haan Auditorium. With American landscapes, Psalms, and hymns, they have created a show that includes audience participation in the singing of hymns. Tickets can be purchased at the door: the cost is $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for students, and free for pre-schoolers. This travelogue is not included in the season pass.

    Matthew Smith & Indelible Grace will be in concert at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 13, at the Meriden Oakdale Evangelical Free Church.  Admission is free, as is the burger and brat supper which begins at 5:30 PM.

    “Angel Food Ministries” food box orders need to be placed by Tuesday, September 14, by calling the Center for Financial Education at 722-3527.  Pickup is scheduled for Saturday, August 21, from 10:00 – 11:30 AM at the Sioux Center First Reformed Church Family Life Center.  You can go on-line to AngelFoodMinistries.com for menu options.  This service is available to all people, regardless of financial status.



  • "Life After Loss" Support Group -- 4:30 PM

    A “Prairie Walk” in the 20-acre Dordt College Prairie Restoration Project will take place at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, September 15.  Prairie walkers should meet in the parking lot behind Dordt's Campus Center.  In case of rain, meet in the science building lecture hall 108.

  • Presentation on Depression and the Human Brain -- 7:30 PM

    Dr. Craig Stockmeier, Director of “The Human Brain Core Collection”, one of the leading postmortem human brain collections in the country, will speak at Dordt College on Thursday, September 16.  His presentation on his research in depression and the human brain will take place at 7:30 PM in the Science and Technology Center lecture hall S101.

    "A Salute to Broadway" is the theme of the pops concert being presented by the Dordt College band and orchestra on Friday, September 17, at 7:00 PM in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

  • Comedian Jeff Allen in Concert -- 7:30 PM

    Christian comedian Jeff Allen will be performing at 7:30 PM on Saturday, September 18, Dordt College's B.J. Haan Auditorium. Jeff's comedy drives home the humor in everyday family life and the joy derived from a healthy marriage. Advance tickets are $12 ($10 for groups of 10 or more).  Tickets at the door will be $15.   • Dordt College Golf Tournament -- 9:00 AM

    The Dordt College Business Club will host a Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 18, at Sioux Center's Ridge Golf Club.  A pancake breakfast will be served at 8:00 AM, with the shotgun start at 9:00 AM.   • "Living Proof" Simulcast -- 9:30 AM

    Eli Toribio, a missionary in Southern Africa with the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee, will speak at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 22, in the Dordt College Science and Technology lecture hall SB 101.  Eli and his wife Evelyn teach farmers how to support their families with sustainable tropical agriculture.

    Maurice’s of Sioux Center is sponsoring a fundraiser for Pup Haven Animal Shelter.  They will hold a style show at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 25, in the Centre Mall.  A Silent Auction will be held. Monetary donations will also be accepted, as well as donations of Purina Kitty or Cat Chow.



  • Immigration Conference -- 9:00 AM

    Local immigration issues and the Christian perspective on dealing with immigrants in the community will be the topic of a conference Saturday, September 25, from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM at Dordt College's B.J. Haan Auditorium.  The $10 registration fee, which includes lunch, is payable at the door. Speakers will be Michelle Devlin, Mark Grey, Scott Hoezee, Mariana Avila and Gianni Gracia.



  • Alpha Center “Walk for Life” -- 9:00 AM

    The Alpha Center “Walk for Life” will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 25, at the Rock Valley City Park.  Registration starts at 8:00 AM.
