  • Sioux County 4-H Beef Weigh In -- 8:00 AM
    Sioux County 4-H and FFA market beef weigh-in will be held Saturday, January 5, at the K&D Feedlot in Sioux Center located at 2818 390th St. The Iowa State Fair and AkSarBen verification process will begin at 8:00 AM sharp. Cost for verification is $5.00 per animal for retinal image scan for Iowa State Fair and $5.00 per animal for DNA AkSarBen. The rest of the cattle that need to be weighed will be from approximately 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

    High School youth who are looking for jobs, applying for scholarships, or getting ready for college can attend a “Life Skills Conference” on Saturday, January 7. The conference, which runs from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM, will be held at the Iowa Lakeside Lab on West Lake Okoboji. Cost is $20.00 per participant, which includes lunch.     Interested in making films? Want to put your skills to the test? Sign your team up for the January 12 “Prairie Grass Film Challenge” sponsored by Dordt College. Teams have 48 hours to write a story and shoot and edit a five to eight-minute film based on criteria emailed to them at the start of the competition.     The National Alliance on Mental Illness is offering a “Family-to-Family Course” in Sioux Center this winter. This free 12-week program of education and support for families of persons with a mental illness will be held in the Sioux Center Public Library from 7:00 – 9:30 on Thursday evenings, beginning January 12. The class is designed for parents, siblings, spouses, adult children, and close friends of persons with a severe mental illness. Class size is limited, so register early.   • Regional Artist Exhibition
    The Orange City Arts Council is calling for art from regional artists, for its juried exhibition February 15-23. The exhibition will be held at the Northwestern College DeWitt Theatre Arts Center, in conjunction with Northwestern's production of Comedy of Errors. The exhibit is open to artists from Iowa or within a 300-miles radius of Orange City. Any adult, college or high school-age artist may submit up to three works of 2-D or 3-D art. The submission deadline is January 21. There is no entry fee. Work must be submitted digitally to the Orange City Arts Council at the email address ocArts@orangecityiowa.com.
